AKC Yorkshire Terriers, Salt Springs, Florida

My name is Connie and I was born and raised in Michigan. Graduated from Redford Union and began working as a secretary for a major sod farm.

After marriage, as soon as we could, we purchased a beautiful seven acre piece of land with nothing but a creek running on it and a small amount of woods. Cleared a section, pitched a tent to live in and began hand drilling a well, preparing for temp electric, septic and many more projects to complete before moving a mobile home on the property. In four years the barn, fences and other projects were completed enough to begin building our home.  Yes, the barn came first! Then came the addition of land on the corner to make our farm complete with more acreage.

A country girl at heart, my dream of having a place to raise children and horses was becoming a reality.

This place I called “my little heaven on earth” also became the home and a great place to raise our sons Wade and Preston. Campouts, chasing fireflies, catching frogs in the creek, playing baseball, riding horses, raising goats, cattle, a rabbit, dogs and cats were included along with the baling of hay and the many chores on the farm.

Our place soon became called the “Four-Gee’s Appaloosa Farm”. I was helping my friend one night, when this beautiful black and white colt was born. I immediately fell in love while watching him being born and struggling to stand up on those long wobbly legs to nurse from his mother. He became a member of our family as soon as he was weaned at three months. Captain Kilroy was the beginning of my breeding of horses. Our barn soon housed mares and was the birth place of foals sired by him for 20 years.

Wade was a Boy Scout (first place winner of the derby car race), avid reader, liked pleasure riding and before you knew it graduated and went to college at Devry Institute of Technology in Columbus, Ohio.  Wade has made his home in Florida and is employed as a project manager for a major contracting company. He is proud father of my two granddaughters who are both wonderful loving parents to their rescue dogs and a cat.

Preston was in band, showed horses in 4-H, an alter server at church and before you knew it began his military career by enlisting in the National Guard and graduated the following year. Texas is Preston’s home and he has served in the military over 26 years. Preston is also proud father of my favorite grandson (my only grandson) who also has his dog and cat.

Our house included a mother-in-law apartment and this soon became home for my mother Margaret until her passing in 2007.

Citizens Insurance Company, now Allmerica Financial was my place of employment for over twenty-five years. My career began with rating high risk auto policies and I soon became a team leader. I became an underwriter for auto and home policies. When CRT’s came into the picture, I was chosen to learn them and return to train employees. Next came the PC’s. Then onto accounting, the test team for the billing system which included traveling to agencies in upper and lower parts of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana to train them on the new changes. I attended Lansing Community college.

Retirement from Citizens came in 2007. I volunteered one day a week in the office at St. Agnes where I attended church and am still a member. In a very short time, I became the secretary and had six wonderful years with my already faith family and where I taught first through fourth grade CCD for several years.

Now, with my sons and grandchildren all grown up, all the farm family crossed over the rainbow bridge, I decided to move here to Florida to be near my son Wade in 2012. My very first small dog Shadow, a part Yorkie came with me.  This began my interest and love of Yorkshire Terriers. This breed is the most fun loving and gives you so so much unconditional love.

Even though my move here is the best, there was still a place in my heart that missed the farm and my life breeding and raising horses.  These fantastic Yorkie’s has rekindled the spark in my heart for breeding, filled that void in my heart and has  given me a purpose and made this place a home just like the farm.

My hope is that each person that purchases a puppy from Yorkie’s of the Forest will feel that same unconditional love and fill your heart with so much happiness.
